Spinach was named for a while “Spanish vegetable”, a shortening of this name giving the current name that we are used with today.

As a matter of fact, this wonderful green vegetable is original from Persia. It was spread from there into Nepal and China and then brought into Europe by the Moors, through Spain. Spinach is well known because of the famous Popeye cartoon character as its source of energy.

Spinach is also a rich source of niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fibre, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. In conclusion: it is a healthy vegetable, loaded with goodies for all parts of our body.
On the other hand: Kiwi known in China as Yang Tao, was entered into New Zealand by missionaries and it got the name of the traditional bird of New Zealand.

Kiwi is a relatively recent addition to western diet, being introduced in US in late 1960s. Like its vegetable counterpart from this recipe, kiwi is also a very healthy and rich in vitamins and nutrients.
In fact, it offers 273% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C in just one-cup serving.
Kiwi is full of vitamin K, vitamin E and vitamin A. Vitamin A is great for the skin, bone, tooth development and protected vision, including protection against macular degeneration.

Also, this wonderful fruit, has a high content of potassium to balance the body’s electrolytes and limiting hypertension and high blood pressure, copper and vitamin B6, which supports the immune system.
